What the end of January means Down Under

After Australia Day, it means the kids start the new school year shortly afterwards. Depending on your school and age, it has begun for most kids this week. Summer break is over, it's back to school until December. I guess it would be cool to be a kid living here, cause every 10 weeks you get 2 weeks off. Not so easy on the parents though who work full time. The end of January means all the back to school supplies are being heavily advertised as well as school uniforms. All school kids in Australia wear uniforms. All of 'em.

This time of year also means that summer TV scheduling is almost over. All the filler shows that didn't grab an audience over the past month or two will be history. After the Australian Open is finished up in Melbourne, by next week all the new TV shows begin airing. Yes, these are many of the same shows that began airing in Sept/Oct in the U.S.

The regular radio DJ's are back on air from their 6 week holidays and the morning TV hosts are mostly back from holidays now too. It would not be an exaggeration to say that it seems alot of the country just starts going on holidays around mid-Dec and disappears until the end of Jan.
